A typical FMF attack is accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, chest pain, joint pain, and joint swelling. These attacks can occur once a month or several times a year, lasting between one to three days. Symptoms typically first appear before the age of 20 in 90 % of cases (Bhatt H. 2023). However, in rare cases, patients may experience late onset symptoms in their 40s (Ugurlu S. 2024). Patients can feel normal between attacks, and common triggers of FMF attacks include psychological stress, fatigue, and for women, the menstrual cycle. Many patients also complain of prodromal symptoms, such as irritability, nervousness, anxiety, nausea, or myalgia (Bhatt H. 2023). As patients get older, episodes become less frequent and less severe. It is important to note that abdominal pain can occur with or without a fever and it can be severe enough to warrant a visit to an emergency department (Hotta Y. 2020; Ugurlu S. 2024).
